All About Future ‘Icebreaker’ Lead Aidan Shaw

You may not know Aidan Shaw yet (and we’re not talking about the Sex and the City character), but you’ve definitely seen his work. From Heated Rivalry to the upcoming Icebreakeradaptation, he’s quickly becoming the face of hockey romance — but his romance credits don’t end there.
On September 29, Netflix revealed that Shaw will star as Russ in Icebreaker, the adaptation of the first novel in Hannah Grace’s beloved Maple Hills romance series. In case you haven’t tapped into the series yet, you should know that while Russ is a minor character in Icebreaker, he takes center stage in the sequel, Wildfire.

Who is Aidan Shaw?
Shaw is a Canadian actor who graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada, in 2023. Since then, he has appeared in numerous book-to-screen adaptations, most of which have seen him on skates.
What has Aidan Shaw been in?
Shaw made his on-screen debut in 2020. He first appeared in Netflix’s Locke & Key as Young Jeff Ellis during Seasons 1 and 3. After that, he scored his first hockey role in the movie Youngblood before returning to the ice in Heated Rivalry, Finding Her Edge, and now Icebreaker. Staying in the book-to-screen realm, he’s also set to star in Season 2 of We Were Liars, which recently finished filming.
Who does Aidan Shaw play in Heated Rivalry?
Ahead of Icebreaker, Shaw appeared in one episode of Heated Rivalry as Koyla, one of Shane Hollander’s (Hudson Williams) Montreal Metros teammates. He can be seen in Season 1, Episode 2, “Olympians,” with the rest of Shane’s team.
Who does Aidan Shaw play in Finding Her Edge?
In a slightly larger role, Shaw took the ice again for Netflix’s Finding Her Edge as Elise‘s (Alexandra Beaton) hockey-playing boyfriend, Weston Scannell. While their relationship saw many highs and lows, and by the end of the season he was connected to a different Russo Rink skater, we’re eager to see what’s in store for the series’ only hockey star during Season 2.

Who will Aidan Shaw play in We Were Liars?
Off the ice, Shaw is set to take on the role of George in Prime Video’s We Were Liars. While the season hasn’t come out yet, the prequel novel Family of Liars gives us a little bit of intel into his role. He is set to play the young Sinclair sisters’ cousin Yardley’s (Madeleine Arthur) boyfriend, a character in the season’s throwback timeline.

Shaw is set to play Russ, a Maple Hills hockey star who comes into his own in the novel Wildfire, which follows his love story with Aurora, a character who has yet to be cast. After a heated one-night stand turned ghosting, Russ unexpectedly reunites with Aurora as counselors for the same summer camp. Of course, there’s a strict “no staff fraternizing” rule at the camp, so surely nothing romantic will happen between them. Right?
While it’s unlikely that Season 1 will cover Russ’ romance, we could see Russ and Aurora’s hookup in the season finale, especially if the adaptation chooses to follow the Off Campus format of weaving love stories from different books together across seasons. Consider our fingers crossed.
Does Aidan Shaw actually play hockey?
It’s safe to say that Shaw has off-camera hockey experience as well. On his LinkedIn, he reveals that he was an Assistant Coach for his little brother’s hockey team from 2015 – 2018. Honestly, we’re obsessed!
