Kathryn Newton has addressed the mysterious photo showing her in full Marvel costume alongside Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Xochitl Gomez. The photo sparked widespread speculation about Avengers: Doomsday, as fans could not recall the two characters ever sharing screen time.

The confusion was deemed justified. Newton’s Cassie Lang and Gomez’s America Chavez have never appeared together in any Marvel Cinematic Universe project to date.

Newton revealed the pair suited up for a Disney cruise ship experience rather than the highly anticipated Russo brothers film.

“Yeah, we did something for Disney Cruises. Isn’t that cool? Right now, I’m on a Disney cruise ship somewhere on the ocean,” Newton explained to The Hollywood Reporter. Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, also known as Ironheart, features in the same promotional material.

The clarification comes as Newton navigates a delicate press cycle. She conducted interviews just days before appearing as Cassie Lang in the first official Avengers: Doomsday trailer, making her particularly cautious about revealing anything substantial.

Despite the tight-lipped approach, Kathryn Newton shared genuine enthusiasm for her experience working with the Infinity War and Endgame directors. “The Russo brothers love these movies. I felt it, and I felt empowered,” she said. “I felt a different kind of energy on their set.” The actor, who first played Scott Lang’s daughter in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, remains one of several Young Avengers members currently established within the MCU.

Speaking separately to ScreenRant, Newton expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and said, “I’m just so excited to be in the movie. I love Cassie Lang.
