Tage Thompson scored a stunning goal for the Buffalo Sabres in their Game 4 win over the Montreal Canadiens.
While the NHL Draft Lottery took place recently, the race for the Stanley Cup is well underway with the playoffs in full swing. The postseason has been full of drama and remarkable moments, including several controversial goals.
However, on Tuesday, Thompson scored a remarkable goal as his Sabres secured a 3-2 win over the Canadiens to even the Eastern Conference semifinals. His goal came at a crucial time, and through fortuitous circumstances to level tie the game.

Seven minutes into the second period, Thompson scored on a four-minute power play when he ripped off a shot off the glass in the left corner from center ice, a dump-in, that ricocheted toward the crease.
The puck then bounced off Jakub Dobes' skate and found the back of the net on the power play, inexplicably tying the game at 2-2. Thompson also had an assist in the win.

Sabres defenseman Mattias Samuelsson opened the scoring in the first period, and Buffalo appeared to double their advantage when video review confirmed Jack Quinn's shot crossed the goal line inside Dobes' glove. However, Montreal successfully challenged for goalie interference on Samuelsson.
Then, Alex Newhook tied the game for the Canadiens with his fifth goal of the series and sixth of the playoffs. Cole Caufield added a second, giving Montreal the lead with 13 seconds to go in the period as he beat Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen from close range on a power play.
Luukkonen was brought in to replace Alex Lyon in goal after the Sabres dropped Games 2 and 3. He made 28 saves in his first action since being pulled in the third period of a Game 2 loss to Boston in the first round.
After Thompson's incredible goal tied the game up, Zach Benson broke through on a third-period power play. On his 21st birthday, Benson took a pass in the slot from Josh Doan and fired a backhander past Dobes to score the winning goal as the Sabres clinched a 3-2 victory.
The series shifts back to Buffalo with Game 5 taking place at KeyBank Center on Thursday, May 14. Then, Game 6 will be hosted by Montreal at Centre Bell on Saturday, May 16.
