Cameron Diaz was spotted filming her latest movie in New York City as her return to acting continues.
On Friday, March 13, the 53-year-old star was photographed filming in the West Village for an as-yet-untitled romantic comedy movie directed by Stephen Merchant. Diaz could be seen standing outside the Olive Tree Cafe & Comedy Cellar, wearing a long black leather coat, a scarf and black lace-up boots. Her blonde hair was styled in curls.

Back in January, Deadline reported that Diaz and Merchant, 51, would be starring in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios rom-com, with Merchant directing off a screenplay he co-wrote with John Butler.
According to the outlet, the movie follows a workaholic Brit (Merchant) employed at an upscale New York hotel who needs a wife for appearances. He makes a deal with a struggling stand-up comedian (Diaz) who is desperate for health insurance.

The pair's fake marriage begins as a business transaction but soon turns into an unexpected romance.
Diaz returned to acting following a decade-long hiatus with a starring role opposite Jamie Foxx in the action-comedy Back in Action, which was released by Netflix in January 2025. When Diaz's casting was announced in June 2022, she celebrated in a post on Instagram, writing, "@iamjamiefoxx only you could get me back in action! I can't frickin wait it's gonna be a blast!"

In July 2025, PEOPLE confirmed that Diaz would be taking on yet another new film role in the upcoming Netflix action-comedy Bad Day, directed by Jake Szymanski. She will star as "a single mom fighting to keep one little promise to her daughter on the absolute worst day of her life," per a release.

She is also set to reprise her iconic voice role as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, currently slated for release on June 30, 2027.
Diaz stepped away from acting following her performance as Miss Hannigan in 2014's Annie. During the years that followed, she married husband Benji Madden and welcomed two children, daughter Raddix and son Cardinal.

Opening up about the decision to pause her acting career on Kevin Hart's Peacock talk show, Hart to Heart, in 2021, the Charlie's Angels star said she started to realize around age 40 that there were "so many parts of my life ... that I wasn't touching" or "managing."
She said she also wanted to bring more simplicity to her life. "I just really wanted to make my life manageable by me," she explained. "My routine in a day is literally what I can manage to do by myself."
During a January 2025 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Diaz shared that she felt grateful to be able to return to the industry, saying "that the door was even open for me after a decade was amazing."
āIt is a privilege to make films, and we are all so lucky to do what we do,ā she continued, adding that while she āloved those 10 years for me and my family," she also thought to herself, "If I let this go away, if I donāt engage again and if I donāt give it chance, I am a fool.ā
āIt might be the beginning of something, but it's here now, and I am grateful for it,ā she said.
