Cavs vs Pistons predictions. Who wins Game 6 of NBA playoff series?
After putting themselves in a hole by losing Games 1 and 2 in Detroit, the Cavaliers climbed back into the series with victories in Games 3 and 4 in Cleveland.
Then, with the best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series tied 2-2, the Cavs took control with a gutsy 117-113 win in Game 5 in Detroit.
And now the Cavs have a chance to close out the Pistons and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals to face the New York Knicks by doing what they have done every time in the 2026 postseason — win at home. Game 6 is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Rocket Arena.

Count this as a complete endorsement of what Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson said about the big-picture state of the team after its 117-113 overtime triumph in Game 5 on May 13 in Detroit. It was Cleveland’s first road win of the 2026 playoffs, and Atkinson struck the right tone by acknowledging the accomplishment while also pointing out the Cavs' mission is not complete.
“You hope it propels us,” Atkinson said. “You hope it galvanizes us. You hope you carry it forward. That was a battle-tested win against a heck of a team on the road. I think you build mental toughness with games like this. You build thicker skin — all that. Calls going each way. Ball is flying out. It was chaos out there.”
“It'll give us momentum going into the next game,” Atkinson continued. “We've got our home crowd. too. It's a great opportunity for this group. I've been in this position before and have lost this next game — this Game 6 — and then that puts a lot of pressure on you in Game 7, especially if you've got to go on the road, and then it'll, obviously, take energy from you if you end up advancing. [Game 6 is] kind of a must-win game for us in terms of if we want to move forward.”
Although the Cavs lead the best-of-seven second-round playoff series 3-2, they must operate with a sense of desperation in Game 6. All of the progress they made by winning Game 5 at Little Caesars Arena would be at risk of being spoiled if they were to miss an opportunity to eliminate the Pistons in Game 6 at Rocket Arena. If necessary, Game 7 would be Sunday, May 17, in Detroit.
This prediction is a vote of confidence the Cavs will understand the gravity of the situation and act accordingly in Game 6.
Cavs 112, Pistons 108
