Ron Funches is getting candid about the highs and lows of his his hair transplant journey.
The 42-year-old comedian and voice actor — who is currently starring on The Traitors — shared several Instagram Stories posts reflecting on the popular cosmetic procedure, including the “shedding” phase. It’s a period he said he experienced during an inopportune time.
In an initial post, shared Sunday, Jan. 18, Funches said he recently learned “the lesson of not going on a big show during the ‘shedding phase’ of a hair transplant.” Otherwise, he said, you will get DMs calling attention to it.
And it sounds like Funches learned this “lesson” the hard way, as he concluded the first post, “Whoops.”
The hair transplant shedding phase, also known as shock loss, is a normal and temporary part of the healing procedure where transplanted hairs fall out as follicles reset for new growth.
After getting candid about the awkward in-between of the “shedding” that follows the procedure, The Traitors season 4 cast member opened up more about his experience with it.
"But the comeback is strong,” he wrote next, this time over a photo of himself showcasing a full head of hair. He also soundtracked the post to Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair.”
He also shared an overhead-back view of his current head of hair, which he captioned, “[In case] you thought I was hiding the back.”
“We're at about 60% on the time frame,” he said of his locks.
The stand-up comedian also reflected on his life pre-hair transplant, however, and revealed that his perspective on his former baldness is a positive one.
“But found out bald me is beautiful,” he wrote over a throwback shot of himself. “So who knows.”
Funches isn’t the only reality star to get candid about their experience with the procedure recently.
Last summer, Love Is Blind season 6 alum Jimmy Presnell made headlines after debuting a very different hair look, and subsequently opening up about his hair transplant journey.
Actor and former pro wrestler John Cena also got candid about his experience with the procedure, which he got in November 2024.
Speaking with PEOPLE for a cover story last year, Cena said that he loves his new look but only has one regret: "I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago.”

"I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness,” the former WWE star said, before pausing to remark how “fired up” he gets about the topic.
"They don't do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another. It's my hair and I'm not using this stuff [on the side] and I'd like to put it up [on the top]," Cena added at the time. "If somebody’s going to sweat me for that, I don’t think there’s any shame in that. It completely changed the course of my life.”
