Wedding bells are ringing for Alex Albon and Lily Muni!

The Formula 1 driver, 29, and the professional golfer, 26, announced their engagement on Instagram on Friday, Jan. 16, by sharing a sweet post-proposal selfie in which Muni flashed her sparkling new ring.

"I guess we’re stuck with each other now ❤️😊," Albon wrote in the caption of the joint post.

Albon and Muni started dating in 2019 after they met over social media.

Speaking to Golfweek in 2021, Muni explained that her friends encouraged her to watch the Netflix docuseries Drive to Survive to help her "see another perspective of a sport that’s under so much pressure" because she was "in a slump" at the time. After binge-watching the show in one day, Muni followed some drivers, including Albon, who happened to be "getting into golf at the same time [she] was getting into his sport" and followed her back.

"We started talking on the phone. We were both rookies in 2019 and I thought that was extremely cool," Muni told the outlet. "Eventually he had an event in the States and afterwards, he and his friend took a little break in LA and that’s how we properly met for the first time."

From his perspective, Albon told Golfweek in 2022, "The first time I picked up a golf club was maybe the beginning of 2019. You could say our interests collided. We met through social media and I was just kind following how she was doing, and she was following how I was doing, and one thing led to another and we met up in LA. It was a week after I had a race in Texas. We played some golf together and that’s how it all got started."

Elsewhere in the same interview, Albon credited his relationship success with Muni to them both being athletes.

"We’re both athletes. It’s a pretty cool place because also, on top of everything, we understand and we get each other," he said. "We started our sports as rookies, and we‘ve gone through tough times together. The highs and lows of being an athlete, I think you can resonate that with any athlete. But it also comes with the space that you need. You need a lot of time to work on yourself, and I think golf is really like that, too. In a weird way, we make our long distance relationship work."

Speaking to PEOPLE in 2022, Albon said he counts his now-fiancée as one of his biggest supporters.

"You need a very strong circle around you. I have a very strong circle," he said. "Leaning on them, that's where you get your inner peace, but also your motivation. And of course, there are days when you feel negative and things aren't going your way, but they're the ones that keep you in check and boost you up when them moments happen."
