Father John Misty fans have a lot to celebrate right now.

Not only did the critically acclaimed indie rocker (real name: Josh Tillman) release a brand new single this month, he also announced a new string of North American tour dates for 2026.

As Pollstar reported, while Father John Misty's previously announced shows for this year kick off on March 23 in Ventura, California, he'll also be playing headlining gigs on July 7 in Grand Rapids, Michigan and on July 8 in St. Paul, Minnesota, in addition to three Canadian shows in Montréal, Quebec City, and Hamilton, Ontario. Fans can also catch him live at the Winnetka Music Festival in Winnetka, Illinois, on June 20.

Father John Misty's last studio album, Mahashmashana, came out in 2024, but he released a new single, "The Old Law," on Jan. 9 (the track was previously known to fans at live performances as "God's Trash").

Commenters on an Instagram post announcing the single were thrilled, with one writing, "Thank you for releasing new music during these trying times. Genuinely food for the soul."

"It's a good day for the sad girlies nation," raved a second fan, with another declaring, "I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY FOR SO LONG."

In a 2024 interview with NPR, Father John Misty opened up about the inspiration for Mahashmashana, which is actually a Sanskrit word.

"It means the great cremation pit, where the universe goes to die after its cycle of birth and death," he explained. "And despite the lofty title, the concerns are pretty terrestrial in my work. And I just liked the contrast of such a grand concept mapped on to what I'm usually singing about."

Father John Misty went on to say that he thinks of the song "Mahashmashana" as a "love story."

"But this corporal form, you know, it just — the body wins every time. And love is kind of the foot soldier of that destruction — sounds like a hit," he added.

No word yet on when Father John Misty's next full album can be expected, but fans are definitely hoping more music is on the way soon.
