King Charles made two firm demands before his confidential Highgrove meeting with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to a source.

The monarch and Queen Camilla welcomed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to Highgrove earlier this month.

The family gathering, which remained secret until after it had ended, reportedly lasted slightly more than an hour. No images or specifics about the family's discussions were released. Despite this, Meghan did share some pictures from the family's UK trip on Instagram.

Sources have now suggested the King had two firm conditions before the meeting took place. One stipulation was to avoid discussing subjects that had been dominating media coverage, including Prince Harry's legal setback against the publishers of The Daily Mail.

The King's second demand was that Harry and Meghan bring along their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to the gathering, a source indicated.

This was apparently crucial to the King, who hadn't seen his grandchildren since their previous UK visit in 2022.

The source revealed to US Weekly, "Certain topics were off limits. They all agreed beforehand that they would not discuss any topics making headlines in the press."

The source added, "The king and queen wanted personal time with their grandchildren, and they wanted it to be lighthearted and positive. The point of the meeting was to spend time with them, and that was the only thing on the agenda."

According to the source, Charles and Camilla "would only agree to the meeting if the kids were coming."

The reunion's timing on July 10 caught many off guard, particularly given that Meghan, Archie and Lilibet had not accompanied Harry on his earlier flight to Britain that week, as had originally been anticipated.

The Duke of Sussex had discovered he would be unable to secure armed police protection, prompting him to travel to his home country alone while he arranged adequate security measures for his family to join him later in the week.

Several days after Harry's arrival, Meghan and the children flew to Britain for private family time. Throughout their stay, the family made no public appearances and were not seen out in public.

It remains unclear when the family of four will next make a joint trip to the UK.
