Cause of death has been revealed for Naked Eyes singer Peter Byrne.
The 74-year-old died from an “acute hemorrhagic stroke,” according to his death certificate.
Naked Eyes scored a Top 10 hit in 1983 with “Always Something There to Remind Me.”
Two weeks after the death of Naked Eyes singer Peter Byrne, the cause has been revealed.
The 74-year-old suffered an “acute hemorrhagic stroke,” according to a death certificate obtained by Entertainment Weekly’s sister site PEOPLE. An underlying condition of colitis, inflammation of the colon, may have contributed to Byrne’s death.
EW has also reached out to a representative of Naked Eyes for comment.

The band previously announced Byrne “died peacefully in Los Angeles” on Sept. 14 “after a brief illness.” The statement also suggested to those wishing to pay their respects to the singer, “please support his music.”
Byrne formed the British new wave band with college friend and keyboardist Rob Fisher in 1982. The duo’s debut album, Burning Bridges, was released the following year and spawned the Top 10 hit “Always Something There to Remind Me,” a synth-pop cover of the 1963 song originally written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
In one of his final interviews, Byrne recalled how he recorded the vocals in one take at Abbey Road Studios in London. Downstairs that evening, there was a big party that expected to draw the likes of Paul McCartney.
“We’d been working on the track all day,” Byrne told Larry the Duck. “By the time this party happened I just said, why don’t we just go out and do the vocal because, you know, we’re done here, so I did... It turned out pretty well, I think.”

Naked Eyes’ second single, “Promises, Promises,” was also extremely popular, peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1983.
The song’s producer, John “Jellybean” Benitez, was simultaneously also working on Madonna’s debut album and enlisted the future pop superstar to perform background vocals on a remix of “Promises, Promises” that was shelved until 2001.
On his own, Byrne recorded with Stevie Wonder, singing backing vocals on 1985’s “Part-Time Lover.” He also wrote songs for film and television, including “I Am the Cute One” for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in 1993.

After Fisher died in 1999 following surgery from bowel cancer, Byrne continued writing, recording, and touring around the world. In 2001, he released a solo album, The Real Illusion, as well as three more Naked Eyes albums.
Byrne remained active in recent years, consistently touring as Naked Eyes. He was one of the acts featured on The 80s Cruise in March 2025. Seven months later, Byrne played his final show on Oct. 19 in Jacksonville, Fla.
