Two brands of bacon were imported from Canada without being inspected upon arrival into the US, prompting a recall (U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service)
More than 12,000 pounds of bacon sold in three states have been recalled due to an inspection error.
Maple Leaf Foods, Inc., located in Lisle, Illinois, has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 12,036 pounds of not-ready-to-eat smoked bacon product that was imported from Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service recently announced.
The products were imported from Canada without being inspected upon arrival into the U.S. and sold to several grocery distributors and retailers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, the notice stated.
All of the recalledbaconproducts are labeled with the Canadian establishment number “EST 1” on the side and the health certificate “2026-S732971612” on the master case boxes.
The recall lists two brands: the 12-oz vacuum package of “Royale Natural Applewood Smoked ALL NATURAL Uncured Bacon Product of Canada” with sell by dates of “SEP 01 2026” and “SEP 07 2026” printed on the side of the package and the 12-oz vacuum package of “TOP VALU Uncured Hardwood Smoked Bacon PRODUCT OF CANADA” with various sell by dates of “SEP 01 2026,” “SEP 02 2026,” “SEP 04 2026”, “SEP 05 2026 and “SEP 07 2026” printed on the side of the package.
The issue was discovered during routine FSIS inspections.

Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers for these affected products and throw them out immediately or return them to the place of purchase.
So far, there have been no confirmed illnesses or injuries from consuming these products, the FSIS said. However, anyone concerned that they have developed an illness or injury after eating the product should contact a healthcare provider.

The latest recall comes amid a widespread outbreak of the parasite cyclosporiasis across multiple states.
Cases of cyclosporiasis — which can cause “explosive” diarrhea — have risen to more than 11,500 across the country in recent weeks, with health officials unable to identify a definitive source.
The initial detection of the cyclospora parasite that causes the disease was traced to shredded iceberg lettuce from central Mexico.
Federal officials had previously said fast-food chain Taco Bell — which stopped serving lettuce at some Michigan locations — was under investigation, resulting in at least one lawsuit.
