Princess Diana’s Brother Reveals If He’s Spoken to Prince William & Harry Since Memoir

Charles Spencer recently revealed whether he had spoken with Princes William and Harry since Princess Diana‘s memoir’s release. The Earl said that he isn’t sure if the brothers approve of Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, given that he didn’t ask them either. Spencer further mentioned that he specifically didn’t want anyone else to be involved in the book. Therefore, only he, his wife, and the publishers knew about it.

In a conversation with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, the interviewer asked Charles Spencer what Prince William and Prince Harry’s reaction was to his memoir. “I didn’t tell any of the family until just before it was released publicly as a thing because I didn’t want anyone to think — particularly with Harry, who people know I had to stay in the summer — that he was in any way involved in this. It was really important for me that they weren’t,” the Earl said, revealing why only a few people knew about the book.

He was then asked whether he had spoken to William and Harry following the book’s release. He replied that he did. Spencer was then questioned about whether the brothers approve of his book. “I don’t know. I haven’t asked about approval. Harry was sort of like, ‘Is there anything in there that would be embarrassing to me?’ I said, ‘Absolutely not.’ I’m very specific about people’s privacy,” he responded.

These remarks come amid a recent conversation, where Spencer revealed that he informed his sisters, Lady Sarah and Lady Jane, at the same time as Harry and William. At the time, he said that Duke was “fine” about it and expected that there was nothing “embarrassing” written about him.

“I could reassure both of them that they’re, of course, in the book, but really as examples of two little boys who had the most exceptional mother, I’m not in any way compromising their privacy at all,” Diana’s brother told PEOPLE.
