Rachel Weisz reprises her role as Evelyn O’Connell, reuniting with Brendan Fraser after nearly 25 years
The Mummy 4 features returning cast members John Hannah and Oded Fehr, plus new additions Michael Johnston and Numan Acar
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film is set for release on Oct. 15, 2027
Rachel Weisz is back as Evelyn O’Connell for the first time in more than two decades.
New set photos from The Mummy 4 show the Oscar winner, 56, reprising her fan-favorite role as the librarian-turned-adventurer, reuniting her with Brendan Fraser‘s Rick O’Connell for the next chapter of the beloved action-adventure franchise.
Weisz was spotted filming in London outside the British Museum in period costume, wearing a yellow polka-dot skirt, brown cropped jacket and matching wide-brimmed hat. She was also photographed carrying a vintage leather briefcase and holding an old-fashioned transistor radio up to her face.

The new images mark a major return for Weisz, who last played Evelyn in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. She did not reprise her role for the third film, 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Maria Bello taking over as Evelyn.
Now, nearly 25 years after audiences last saw Weisz and Fraser, 57, together as the O’Connells, the pair is back.

In the first installment of The Mummy, released in 1999, Weisz’s Evelyn begins as a bookish librarian and Egyptologist whose love of ancient history leads her, along with her mischievous brother, Jonathan Carnahan (John Hannah), into the Egyptian city of Hamunaptra.

There, she and adventurer Rick O’Connell become caught up in the resurrection of Imhotep, an ancient Egyptian high priest whose return unleashes a supernatural curse. The sequel, The Mummy Returns, picked up the story with Rick and Evelyn married and raising their young son, Alex, while facing another ancient threat.
The franchise continued in 2008 with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which jumped ahead to 1947 and followed Rick, Evelyn and Alex as they faced the resurrected Dragon Emperor in China. Weisz was replaced by Bello, 59, in the film, leaving Fraser and the rest of the returning cast to carry on the story without the original actress.

For The Mummy 4, however, the O’Connell family reunion is officially back on. Fraser and Weisz are reprising their roles, with Hannah, 64, also returning as Jonathan. Oded Fehr is back as Ardeth Bay, while Kevin J. O’Connor is reprising his role as Beni Gabor from the first film. New additions to the cast include Michael Johnston and Numan Acar.
The new film comes from Scream and Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are directing from a script by David Coggeshall. Plot details are being kept under wraps, so it’s not yet clear exactly where the new adventure will take Rick and Evelyn or what supernatural threat they’ll face this time around.
The project was first reported in November 2025, when news broke that Fraser and Weisz were in talks to return. The reunion was officially confirmed in February 2026.
Originally scheduled for May 19, 2028, The Mummy 4‘s release date has moved up to Oct. 15, 2027.
