Sophia Bush is recommending patience to all the *One Tree Hill* diehards still holding out hope for the much-anticipated revival series.

Nearly two years after news of the revival first arrived, Bush offered a cryptic — and vaguely disappointing — update about the project while walking the red carpet of Elton John's AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party on Sunday night. When asked if the show is "still happening," Bush hesitated before answering.

"You know, we have done such great work, and it’s been really incredible to see every single person in our cast got excited about that phone call, had amazing ideas about where their characters would be, what stories they’d want to explore," Bush began after a pause.

Then, referencing Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. after outbidding Netflix for the studio, she added, "I would say that we’re all very aware of what’s happening to media right now and who media is being bought by and I don't know that any of us are the current media conglomerates' best friends or favorite people. But I'm okay with that."

Concluding her update, she added, "I'm patient, if nothing else. That's the classiest way I can say it."

This prompted Bush's girlfriend, former soccer player Ashlyn Harris, to jump in and sum it all up: "That was a long-winded of 'You’ll have to wait and see.'"

In August 2024, * *confirmed that a *One Tree Hill* sequel series was in development with original stars Bush, Hilarie Burton Morgan, and Danneel Ackles slated to reprise their roles. The new series was reported to have found a home at Netflix with Warner Bros. Television set to produce and all three women signed on as executive producers. Becky Hartman Edwards (*Firefly Lane*, *Virgin River*, and *My Life with the Walter Boys*) was attached as the series' showrunner.

That same month, Bush confirmed the project with an Instagram post, writing, "What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Own our history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up."

She added, "There’s only one Tree Hill, after all. And you — the #OTHfam — have shown us that it’s not just an idea. It really is the place where “everything’s better and everything’s safe.”

The original series, set in the fictional town of Tree Hill, N.C., follows feuding brothers Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), as well as best friends Peyton Sawyer (Burton Morgan) and Brooke Davis (Bush). Ackles joined the show in season 4 as Rachel, a rival to Brooke who eventually befriends the group. The series — which ran for nine seasons, first on The WB and then The CW — began as a straightforward teen drama but later became known for its increasingly crazy storylines as it trailed the lives of its leads, jumping from their teen to their young adult years about halfway through its run.

Though few details about the revival have been revealed, Burton previously teased that the new series would offer more a female-centric narrative, telling PEOPLE, "Being able to work with a team of women and look at these stories [and] these characters through a female lens is something that — whether I was doing a reboot or a brand-new show or a different movie at this phase in my life, female teamwork is something that is so vital to me."

Months later, Burton said that while the reboot had not yet been greenlit by Netflix, she remains "very confident" in the work their team had prepared.
