Ali Hazelwood announced a new book called The Two-Body Problem, the sequel to her bestselling book The Love Hypothesis
The sequel follows Olive as she balances career pressures and her relationship with fellow scientist Adam
The author also teased a potential movie adaptation could be in the works
Ali Hazelwood has something new for fans of The Love Hypothesis.
The New York Times bestselling author, 36, revealed that she will be releasing a sequel to her book called The Two-Body Problem, which will be released next year.
“I wrote a sequel to The Love Hypothesis is not a sentence I thought I’d say a year or so ago, but now I weirdly can’t imagine a world in which The Two-Body Problem doesn’t exist,” Hazelwood said when she announced the book on Instagram.
“I’m really eager to talk more about this book and how it came about in the next few months. For now let me just say that the TLH movie and its cast made me fall for Adam and Olive all over again, that revisiting them was an absolute pleasure,” she added.
Along with the news, she shared the cover of the new book, which featured the main characters with their arms around each other as they looked out at an experiment. The cover of the book was drawn in the same style as the previous one by artist Lilly Saur.
The author acknowledged that “unannounced sequels can be blindsiding,” adding that fans can “feel free to skip this book and overwrite it with whatever headcanon” they prefer. But her new book is perfect for those who do want to revisit Adam and Olive’s story in her writing style.

“If you want to read more about Adam and Olive, The Two-Body Problem spans a couple of years, and it’s a mix of slice of life, postdoctoral turmoil and unflinching exploration of the hardest challenge one will face in a long-term relationship: deciding what to have for dinner,” she explained.

“If you pick it up, I really hope you enjoy 💙,” she added.
The book follows Olive as she navigates the “hard reality of clashing schedules, an increasingly grim and ultra-competitive job market,” and her own “desire to be seen as a formidable scientist in her own right” all while being in love with fellow researcher, Dr. Adam Carlsen, according to a synopsis.
“Being with Adam is the most real thing Olive has ever known,” the synopsis continues. “As the pressure tightens and the stakes rise, she’ll have to set all confounding variables aside and learn to trust her heart.”

The news comes one week after the premiere of The Love Hypothesis on Amazon Prime, a film adaptation of the bestselling book by the same name, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman. The film quickly climbed the charts to become the No. 1 most-watched movie on the platform worldwide.

Hazelwood also teased that while “nothing is guaranteed,” Media Rights Capital (MRC) “is developing a film based on the The Two-Body Problem for Amazon MGM Studios.” She added that there would be “more soon.”
The Two-Body Problem will be released on Feb. 2. 2027.
