Dutton Ranch season 1, episodes 1 and 2, premiered May 15 on Paramount+
The two-episode premiere sees Beth and Rip buy a ranch in Texas
Viewers also watch Beth make a powerful enemy and a valuable friend
Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) are rebuilding their life from the ashes in Dutton Ranch.
In the Yellowstone season 5 finale, Beth and Rip left the family ranch behind with their adopted son, Carter (Finn Little). The couple purchased a new ranch outside Dillon, Mont. — far from tourists, airports and developers — where Rip could keep cowboying, and they could build a quieter life together.
When Dutton Ranch opens, Beth and Rip are settling into that peaceful new chapter in southwest Montana’s mountain country. But their fresh start is short-lived when a wildfire breaks out, forcing the couple to make a difficult decision about their future.
So, what happened during the season 1 two-episode premiere of Dutton Ranch? Here's a breakdown of everything that unfolded.
Where did Beth and Rip move?

In the opening minutes of Dutton Ranch, Beth and Rip are blissfully happy on their new Montana ranch — until a wildfire breaks out and burns their entire property to the ground. Rip barely makes it out alive after cutting the fences to give their herd a fighting chance.
In the aftermath, Rip starts making calls, including to former Yellowstone cowboy Walker (Ryan Bingham), who tells him about a ranch for sale in Rio Paloma, Texas, about an hour from the Mexico border. The Edwards Ranch spans 5,000 acres and comes with a herd of 175 Black Angus.
Realizing it would be cheaper to rebuild in Texas, Beth and Rip decide to make the move.
“We gave this place all we got, didn’t we?” Beth asks Rip. He nods and replies, “Sweetheart, Montana will always be our home.”
Who is Beth’s new enemy?

Once in Texas, Beth needs to find a slaughterhouse for her cattle. She pays a visit to 10 Petal Meats, where she meets Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening), the owner of 10 Petal Ranch — a massive Rio Paloma outfit not unlike her father’s ranch back in Montana.
Beth gets pushback when she asks to have six steers slaughtered. Beulah tells her they don’t process fewer than 50 head, explaining that while they once serviced smaller outfits, every cow they handle now comes from one ranch: hers.

Beulah eventually agrees to slaughter Beth’s cattle, but instead of payment, she wants a cut of the profits from the meat sales. Insulted, Beth calls her an extortionist and walks out.
After Beth befriends local veterinarian Everett McKinney (Ed Harris), he points her to a smaller slaughterhouse willing to offer a fair deal. Of course, that comes after Beth and Rip outbid Beulah on a bull at a local auction — further deepening the feud.
Whose body did Rip find on his ranch?

Beulah is a powerful, wealthy rancher, but she has plenty of problems of her own — many of them stemming from her volatile son, Rob-Will (Jai Courtney).
Trouble erupts when Rob-Will kills one of 10 Petal’s ranch hands, Wes (Nakoa DeCoite), after Wes begins to suspect his boss is involved in some shady business dealings.
Rob-Will then dumps Wes’ body on the Dutton Ranch. While riding the property, Rip spots vultures circling overhead and goes to investigate, only to discover Wes' remains.
Rather than tell anyone, he disposes of it himself, dumping Wes in an abandoned mine — his new version of the train station.
Who is Carter’s crush, Oreana?

While Beth and Rip are trying to find their footing in Texas, so is Carter, who is adjusting to a new school in a state where the customs are wildly different from those back in Montana.
Carter attends a local rodeo, where he sees a girl named Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) and her boyfriend get into a verbal altercation that looks like it could turn physical. Carter intervenes, punching the man several times before the police step in. He is taken to the police station, and Oreana bails him out.
The next day, Oreana convinces Carter to skip school and drink beer with her in the bed of her Ford Bronco. It’s clear Oreana comes from money, but by the end of episode 2, viewers learn just how complicated Carter’s crush really is: Oreana is Rob-Will’s daughter and Beulah’s granddaughter, putting Carter directly in the middle of Beth and Rip's growing feud with the Jackson family.
