Zendaya rewears 2015 Oscars dress to 'The Drama' premiere
Zendaya brought out "something old" for her red carpet look at the premiere of "The Drama" this week.
The actress stepped out at the Los Angeles premiere Tuesday night in a white off-the-shoulder gown, which she previously wore to the 2015 Oscars.
Zendaya has been known to align her red carpet looks with the themes of each film she's promoted in the past. With the help of her stylist Law Roach, she wore tennis-inspired looks for the "Challengers" press tour in 2024, and she did the same for "Dune: Part Two," wearing dramatic, futuristic looks with exaggerated silhouettes.

So when it came time for "The Drama," many were anticipating how she would interpret the film through fashion -- and she did not disappoint.
"The Drama," from A24, follows a "happily engaged couple" who are "put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails," according to its official website.

Speaking with Variety at the premiere on Tuesday, Zendaya said, "I was brainstorming with Law how I would theme dress for this film, and I kind of remembered the saying, 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.' So, this is my 'something old.'"
She continued, "I thought I'd bring it back and give it a new life, and it meant so much to me, this dress. I think it was such an important moment for myself, my community, my loved ones, and yeah, it felt right."
"It also so happens to be a wedding dress," she added. "So, that works."

Roach shared on his Instagram that the dress is a bridal gown designed by Vivienne Westwood. The stylist said Zendaya paired the look with jewelry from Chopard.
On X, Roach also reminded his followers about the dress's history, writing, "Who remembers this dress and all the headlines that came with it? Decided to go with SOMETHING OLD tonight."

Zendaya's ensemble at the 2015 Oscars became the center of controversy, after TV host Giuliana Rancic made remarks about the look during a "Fashion Police" segment following that year's ceremony.
At the time, Rancic commented that Zendaya's hair -- which the actress had worn in dreadlocks -- "overwhelm[ed] her]," adding, "I feel like she smells like patchouli oil... or weed."

Zendaya later responded to Rancic's comments at the time on X, formerly Twitter.
"There is a fine line between what is funny and disrespectful. Someone said something about my hair at the Oscars that left me in awe. Not because I was relishing in rave outfit reviews, but because I was hit with ignorant slurs and pure disrespect," she wrote at the time. "To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive. I don't usually feel the need to respond to negative things but certain remarks cannot go unchecked."

She continued, "There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair. My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough."
"To me locs are a symbol of strength and beauty, almost like a lion's mane," she added. "I suggest some people should listen to India Arie's 'I Am Not My Hair' and contemplate a little before opening your mouth so quickly to judge."
Rancic later apologized to Zendaya on-camera on "Fashion Police," saying at the time, "As you know, 'Fashion Police' is a show that pokes fun at celebrities in good spirit, but I do understand that something I said last night did cross the line. I just want everyone to know I didn't intend to hurt anybody. But, I've learned that it's not my intent that matters, it's the result. And the result is that people are offended, including Zendaya, and that is not OK."
She called the moment a "learning experience," adding, "Therefore, I want to say to Zendaya and anyone else out there that I have hurt, that I am so, so sincerely sorry."
"The Drama," written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters.
The film hits theaters April 3, 2026.
